Why I believe medical marijuana should be legal

March 30th, 2009

Why do the drug warriors not want to give people in intense pain all possible options? Their attacks on medical marijuana is not only wrong, but immoral:

PETA kills over 2,000 animals a year

March 30th, 2009

If PETA really cares so much for animals, why do they kill over 2,000 a year?

U.S. Drug Policy Provides Money for Terrorists! Washington Times Exclusive

March 27th, 2009

The Washington Times today reports that a terrorist group is making money by exploiting American’s War on Drugs. The Times reports:

Hezbollah is using the same southern narcotics routes that Mexican drug kingpins do to smuggle drugs and people into the United States, reaping money to finance its operations and threatening U.S. national security, current and former U.S. law enforcement, defense and counterterrorism officials say.

The Iran-backed Lebanese group has long been involved in narcotics and human trafficking in South America’s tri-border region of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. Increasingly, however, it is relying on Mexican narcotics syndicates that control access to transit routes into the U.S.

This is one reason The Economist recently re-affirmed it’s commitment to legalizing drugs. U.S. policy creates the market for large profits. We have had a war on drugs for 100 years and we  aren’t winning. Maybe legalization is the answer to de-fund terrorists.

Obama action figures

There are no words to properly describe this:

Lance Armstrong’s Exceptionalism

March 23rd, 2009

Today, Lance Armstrong crashed in the first stage of , Vuelta a Castilla y León, breaking his collarbone. This wreck underscores one of the reasons Lance Armstrong’s 7 Tour de France victories in a row were so exceptional—nothing ever went so wrong it kept Armstrong from winning.

For example, this bad crash happened to Joseba Beloki, not him:

Even when Armstrong crashed on the Luz Ardiden in 2003 was luckily not injured (the video below is in German because I couldn’t take the techno soundtrack of this version)

I’m not the biggest Armstrong fan, but I like that he is racing again because it means that there are more options to watch races. It will now be difficult for Armstrong to race the Giro d’Italia, which is too bad. I don’t think Armstrong would win, but I would like to see better coverage of the Giro in the U.S.

Obama and Diplomatic Keystone Cops

March 17th, 2009

People from around the word loved Obama when he was running for President, but you have to wonder how much longer that will last if he keeps with his diplomatic gaffes.  Here are three ones:

1. The State Department Can’t Spell in Russian.  How in the world does Hillary Clinton’s State Department not know how to spell Russian?

2. When British Prime Minster Gordon Brown stops by the U.S., he gives Obama a thoughtful and and expensive gift, in return Obama gives Gordon Brown 25 DVDs. This is the kind of thing you expect someone clueless to do. Brown gave Obama a pen holder crafted of wood from the HMS Gannet, an anti-slave ship previously named the HMS President. The Gannet was a sister ship to HMS Resolute, whose timbers were used to construct the desk in the Oval Office. Obama sent an internet across the river to the Costco in Arlington to buy some DVDs (just kidding, I don’t know if Costco had all the DVDs in stock, the intern probably had to go to the nearby Borders, or maybe across the street to the Pentagon City mall).

Who thinks that giving the Prime Minister of our best diplomatic friends a few DVDs is a good gift?

3. The White House Does not know the Name of Brazil’s President. Yesterday President Silvia stopped by the White House and this visit caused some issues:

Still, the White House made several moves interpreted as snubs by the Brazilian media.

Silva aides said the trip was pushed forward from Tuesday because of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday — making Latin America once again look like an afterthought. Then, the White House announcement misspelled his name as "Luis Ignacio" and put "Lula" — a nickname that decades ago became a legal part of the Brazilian leader’s name — in quotes.

Strange days.

President Obama Advises World to Ignore Scare Tactics of President Obama

March 17th, 2009

I’m slow posting this, but it’s pretty good. President Obama should really take his advice.
